Expert’s Guide to Siphon Brewing ![]()
Introduction
This brewing method is called siphon brewer, or a vacuum brewer or vacpot. It produces a complex yet smooth and mild cup of coffee which is coveted by coffee aficionados worldwide.
We strongly encourage you to read through the Expert’s Guide to Siphon Brewing if this is your first time attempting siphon coffee brewing.
Please note the guide below uses a Halogen Light Beam Heater, but other heat sources are interchangeable. Common heat sources include butane burners and de-natured alcohol burners. For more information on types of heat sources, please see the Expert’s Guide.
Method
YOU WILL NEED THE FOLLOWING:
- PRE-MEASURED COFFEE BEANS
12oz BREW = 20 GRAMS OF COFFEE - SIPHON TOP AND BOTTOM WITH FILTER ASSEMBLY
- WATER KETTLE OR HOT WATER SOURCE
- LONG SPOON, PREFERABLY BAMBOO, WOOD, OR PLASTIC
- GRINDER
- TIMER
- HALOGEN LIGHT BEAM HEATER OR OTHER HEAT SOURCE
STEP 1
FILL THE BOTTOM GLASS GLOBE WITH HOT WATER UNTIL YOU REACH THE DESIGNATED CUP MARK ON THE SIDE.
FILL THE BOTTOM GLASS GLOBE WITH HOT WATER UNTIL YOU REACH THE DESIGNATED CUP MARK ON THE SIDE.
STEP 2
GRIND YOUR COFFEE. IT SHOULD RESEMBLE COARSE SAND.

STEP 3
LOCK YOUR FILTER ASSEMBLY TO THE UPPER GLASS, AND CAREFULLY PLACE THE UPPER GLASS ON THE BOTTOM GLASS GLOBE.
LOCK YOUR FILTER ASSEMBLY TO THE UPPER GLASS, AND CAREFULLY PLACE THE UPPER GLASS ON THE BOTTOM GLASS GLOBE.
STEP 4
PLACE THE SIPHON ON YOUR LIGHT BEAM HEATER. TURN ON THE BEAM TO IT’S MAXIMUM SETTING. ALLOW THE WATER TO BOIL AND TRAVEL FROM THE BOTTOM GLOBE TO THE TOP GLASS CONTAINER.
PLACE THE SIPHON ON YOUR LIGHT BEAM HEATER. TURN ON THE BEAM TO IT’S MAXIMUM SETTING. ALLOW THE WATER TO BOIL AND TRAVEL FROM THE BOTTOM GLOBE TO THE TOP GLASS CONTAINER.
STEP 5
WHEN THE WATER HAS REACHED THE TOP, TURN DOWN THE HEAT SO THAT THE NUMBER OF BUBBLES REACHING THE TOP IS MINIMAL.
NOT ALL OF THE WATER WILL REACH THE TOP, THIS IS TO ENSURE THAT THE BOTTOM GLASS DOES NOT CRACK FROM OVERHEATING.
WHEN THE WATER HAS REACHED THE TOP, TURN DOWN THE HEAT SO THAT THE NUMBER OF BUBBLES REACHING THE TOP IS MINIMAL.
NOT ALL OF THE WATER WILL REACH THE TOP, THIS IS TO ENSURE THAT THE BOTTOM GLASS DOES NOT CRACK FROM OVERHEATING.
STEP 6
ADD YOUR GROUND COFFEE TO THE TOP AND START YOUR TIMER.

STEP 7
CAREFULLY STIR THE COFFEE AND WATER TOGETHER UNTIL ALL THE COFFEE IS WET.

ALLOW THE COFFEE TO BREW FOR 2:00 MINUTES.

AT 2:00 MINUTES, TURN YOUR LIGHT SOURCE OFF COMPLETELY.

STIR THE COFFEE AGAIN IN THE SAME DIRECTION THREE FULL CIRCLES.

STEP 11
THE COFFEE WILL SLOWLY RETURN TO THE BOTTOM CHAMBER.

STEP 12
CAREFULLY REMOVE THE TOP CHAMBER AND CLEAN THE FILTER ASSEMBLY. THE COFFEE IS NOW READY TO BE SERVED.
NOTE: CLEAN AND SOAK YOUR FILTERS IN WATER TO PREVENT STAINING.
